Bikeiowa is crazy..

It’s really amazing how much chatter goes on with the bikeiowa boards. I get the posts in my e-mail and for some reason I feel compelled to read them all. I feel I’m a part of the biking community, reading others opinions helps mold my own opinions and arguments, there is a point when messages serve little purpose other than to toot the clever horn of the sender. It’s hardly ever clever.

I find almost zero posts on bikeiowa to be funny, having to read through so many posts with no point other than to make a joke is painful. I have been able to skim and skip posts more and more, it’s impossible to be a bikeiowa reader and think to yourself, ‘Look, a Kim West post, that’s going to be good!’.

I respect the rights of all to post whatever they want on the board, I’ve always felt it was a way to keep up with races and events, anyone can post what they think is worth saying. It would be nice if it was also worth reading.

New shop open

Looks like a new shop open in Iowa City, I’m sure you know Steve and Cody have opened a shop at 310 E. Prentiss street, if you didn’t know you do now. You can find out more at http://30thcentury.wordpress.com/

I stopped in and got a new chain last week, I was always happy to see Steve show up at our events, it’s rare to see really fast guys be as nice and fun. They’ve put a lot of time into the bike library, and now they have a change jar that will be set to a new charity each month. Lots of good reasons to stop by and support some good ideas, it is bike to work week after all.

Finchford done

Well, our race went poorly, while Gary seemed to miss a split at a bad moment to bridge, I made it with the front for long enough that the lack of real training called me out. The race was turning out to be a kind of windy grind of steady speed, exactly the conditions that break me:)

Looks like the big powerhouses were in there element, they’re strong and well trained, that spells an early end for me. It was impressive to see some strong guys do there stuff. I was a bit surprised at some of the cornering I witnessed in the race though, riders were taking turns very wide and not all that fast. Perhaps the wind made lines sketchy.

One thing I’d like to see is a few more smiles out there, it really seems a bit too serious. I know there is money on the line, lots of hard training to prove, but don’t forget it’s all for the joy of pretending to be a big racer.

Two Bee a 3

Finford is coming up this Saturday, looks like Gary and I shall be attending as teammates in the 3 race. It will be nice to have a friend and teammate back in the race with me. I’m sure this will help me be more active in a race, for me the IC road race was more just testing out the distance, I wasn’t motivated to try anything really. Having two of us in the same race will make it fun again, and that’s really the only motivation for racing, to have fun.
